Ashley Berner is the Co-Director, with James Hunter, of the Moral Foundations of Education Project, which explores modern American educational philosophy and practice. Ms. Berner was educated at Davidson College (Honors A.B. in History) and the University of Oxford (M.Litt., D.Phil. in Modern History). She has taught at a Jewish pre-school, an Episcopal secondary school, and an open university in Louisiana. She received grants from St Hilda’s College, University of Oxford; The Culham Institute, United Kingdom; and The St Luke’s College Foundation, United Kingdom. She has lectured at the University of Birmingham and the University of Oxford; written book reviews for The Hedgehog Review; and contributed the chapter on education in Redefining Christian Britain: Post-1945 Perspectives (London, 2007). She is a contributor to the University of York’s Christianity and Culture Project (2009-2010) and is a member of the Academic Advisory Group to Cardus’s Education Survey (2009-2011). Her areas of research include nineteenth century intellectual history, educational philosophy, and comparative educational systems. Ms. Berner lives in New York City with her husband and two daughters.
