Donald Hall

U.S. Poet Laureate Donald Hall

On February 2nd, 2007, 475 people attended U.S. Poet Laureate Donald Hall’s poetry reading at the University of Virginia and responded with a standing ovation. Earlier in the day, Hall led a seminar on illness and poetry for a group of physicians, medical students, poets, and IASC fellows.

The Poet Laureate’s visit was co-hosted by The Hedgehog Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, and the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Humanities, with generous financial support from UVa’s Office of the President.

Mohammad Khatami

Mohammad Khatami, Former President of Iran

On September 7, 2006, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture sponsored a lecture by former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami.  Khatami delivered a lecture on “Religion and Politics,” identifying peace through security as the fundamental international dilemma of our time.
