Technology and the Human Person
Spring Colloquium 2002
The
Spring 2002 Colloquium Series, “Technology
and the Human Person,” was held on the grounds
of the University of Virginia. Each colloquium focused
on one aspect of the challenges that contemporary technologies
pose to our most basic conceptions of the human person.
Too often, reflections on the effects of technological
change tend to assume a rather thin view of the human person
and thus fail to address the complexity inherent in the
balance between the gains and pitfalls of technology. We
hope this colloquium series encouraged interdisciplinary
discussion on the ways that digital technologies and biotechnologies
impact how we understand the human person, and how we might
explore the line between pursuing technological possibilities
and protecting what is integrally human.
Papers from this colloquium are published in the Fall
2002 issue of The Hedgehog Review. |
