A. J. Walton is a Ph.D. student in Theology, Ethics, and Culture in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia. His concentration is Christian theology, with particular interests in lived theology, racial identity and racial reconciliation, local knowledge and memory, and theories of spatial politics and its implications on justice and reconciliation efforts. He holds a B.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters of Divinity from Duke Divinity School.

The Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture is an interdisciplinary research center and intellectual community at the University of Virginia committed to understanding contemporary cultural change and its individual and social consequences, training young scholars, and providing intellectual leadership in service to the public good.
